    Andermatt

SUnday I went skiing at Andermatt with Paul/Brandon/Mike/Matt.  It was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day!  Sunshine and actually lots of snow!  The train ride down there was incredibly scenic, and it only takes like 2.5 hours to get there, so its relatively close.  We took the gondola right up to the top of the mountain and the view were spectacular!  I separated from the guys at the top because they are like a bzillion times faster and more hardcore than me, and i reallly enjoyed the first run down from the top!  After that I did a few Tbar runs at the middle gondola station, and the snow was pretty ok there.  At about noon though, I fell and twisted my knee and didn't get back on my skiis... RAWR!  I moved to the side of the run because I had felt something weird happen in my knee and it popped... so anyways I walked down and got my shoes and after lunch I decided to head home because my knee was feeling pretty weird.  Not in pain... just uncomfortable.  Like it needed to crack but just couldnt... because I couldn't bend it!  The train ride home was pretty long because I had to hold still and that was tough.  I finished "Out of Africa" on the trainride home, and when I got home I considered going to the hospital to have it looked at but I figured it couldnt be soo bad because I got this far already, so I watched 'Blood Diamond' and went to bed.  This mornign I went to the clinic by work to get it checked out and they sent me to the hospital to get it checked out and x-rayed.  SO, long story short no boney structures are damaged (WOO HOO) and I hafta go back next Monday for an MRI to see whats goin on with meniscus and cartilage.  My MCL is for sure strained, but I dont' know about the other ligaments because I nearly kicked the doctor when he tried to test them.  So until then I get to limp around like a crazy woman.  I have a brace that doesnt let me bend or twist my knee, which is HEAVEN SENT because that means I dont have to focus on it myself :)

Anyways, I am doing fine so far so do not fret :) I will keep you posted on whats goin on inside my knee.
BUT this may be the last ski post of the season... downhill skiing anyways!

    Out of Africa

I FINALLY finished this book, by Isak Dinesen.  I have been reading it since Nov. 19th.  It was a GREAT put you to sleep at night book!  Which I didn't expect.  A Danish Baroness moves to Kenya to work a farm, and the whole book is her telling the stories of what happened to her while she was there.  The stories are very... lyrical (I stole that description from Wikipedia) and I would almost go so far as to say long winded.  But, the book is set in the early 1900's and the view on Africa is quite unique compared to any other book I've read about Africa.  This book is set "pre-Aid" Africa, which is neat.  The Baroness does have a kind of condescending view of Africans though.

I wouldn't really recommend this book, unless you need to fall asleep at night.  The first few hundred pages are GREAt for that!

Why I love Ikea...and Baileys... together

Today after work I headed to Ikea with Ula (and some colleagues).  Mission: purchase a desk, closet, chairs for dining room, couch.  Now, this is AFTER part 1, where we went to scope out what she wanted.  So anyways, here we are at Ikea.  The colleagues we went with were 2 male engineers, so they weren't super impressed that Ula didn't know exactly what she wanted.  That was the vibe I got anyways, but I might have been WAY off because they were talking mostly in Polish.  Anyways, objective 1: couch.  Ula picked a BEAUTIFUL red leather couch that folds out into a bed, and it is gonna look beautiful in her apartment.  BUT she had to order it, which is actually sweet becase they're delivering it for free to her house!  And it was gonna be super heavy.

Side note: Today I decided that I'm going to move a couch up into my room and have movie parties up here, becuase it is sweeeeeet.  How is the couch going to get up here, you might ask?  Well... if you have been here you know that there is a VERY narrow spiral staircase, and also an entrance way through the storage space on the top floor.  Neither of these are really big enough for a couch... so we'll see.  It'll be fun.

Ok so after the couch was the... um... closet?  Chairs?  I don't remember, but she had these picked out already so that wasn't too epic.  (The desk she wanted wasn't in stock :( )  On the way out of COURSE she picked up a plant... sneaky Ikea and putting the plants at the end of the store, right before you get to the "pick it up here" section.  Heck, I almost bought one.  I know I am a notorious plant killer... but I have decided that I am going to start taking better care of them.  They make the room so colorful and outsidesy.  :D  Ok so we picked up all the pieces of furniture and headed to the rental place, because Ula knew we were going to need a big car... but it turned out to be huge.  It was a van... HUUUUUUGE!  She had no trouble driving it though and we made it safely to her house.  The furniture all got upstairs, and we headed BACK to Ikea to return the car.  Then we had dinner there... I had vegetable schnitzel... which is REALLY upsetting my stomach right now, and thats why I'm not in bed.  Anyways, then we got a ride back to Ulas house, I learned how to say thank you in Polish (I have already forgotten) and then we hung out for a little bit.  Her place is PRETTY sweet... and so much newer and cleaner than mine that its not even funny.  And I mean, I like my roomies, but to live there by myself would be sweeeet, and tidy.  Anyways, we had a Baileys and built some beautiful dining chairs.  Baileys on the rocks is my new fav. drink.  Soooo tasty.  Anyways, we got 2 chairs together and then came to my house and watched "White Chicks."  I definitely feel a little dumber now, but my abs feel good from laughing.  Classic.  Kim (one of my neighbors, from England) was also here and it was probably the most normal thing I've ever done here... hang out with GIRLS and watch a movie.  It was awesome!

Anyways, here is a brief summary of why I love Ikea:
1.) It's cheap: when I change my mind about what I want I can buy new stuff
2.) Its modular: when I change my mind about how I want my room organized, I can mix and match it up.
3.) The store is organized.  I like organized.  They give you instructions on where to go.  The floor is MAPPED into areas.  Similar things are together.
4.) The store sells you things to help you be organized.  Boxes, bags, shelves... everything
5.) The store sells everything, furniture, bathrobes, art, Swedish meatballs, Glogg, and ice cream.
5.1) Ikea's in Europe sell beer.
6.) I can understand the instructions because they are only pictures.
7.) Walking around in Ikea is actually a workout in itself.  And I mean putting the furniture together even more so.
8.) Some of the boxes you get are WICKED shapes.  COME ON BOX FORT!

I cannot believe I just wrote that much about Ikea.

Anyways... on a totally unrelated subject, I have decided that I am going to learn how to play the guitar.  I was playing with Ulas electric piano today and realized just how much I miss music, and how RIDICULOUS it is that I stopped playing.  And I think that guitar would be great because
a.) its portable... or more so than a piano
b.) I can play country songs
    c.) Jack Johnson
d.) I can pretend to sing along
    e) its cheaper than a euphonium

Now, I just have to find a guitar.  And figure out how to play it.  But hey, one step at a time :)

Tomorrow the plan is to sleep in, get up, go shopping for NEW MITTENS AND A NEW JACKET/MAYBE SNOW PANTS, come home, go for a run (if I tell you about it I am WAY more likely to do it.... right. yeah.) and then clean my room.  There are dustbunnies EVERYWHERE.  I dont get it, its so humid yet stuff floats around in the air like nobodys business.  Then, if I have enough energy, I will tackle the downstairs level, although I think it is a lost cause.  I might not clean it until I move out in May.  OH But I do have to do the recycling.  Tomorrow I would also like to finish my book...and go to a concert at like 9-10pm.  I wanted to take a nap, but it doesn't look like thats gonna fit in there.  OH and I hafta fix up my resume and find some jobs to apply for.  I think I've decided that I would rREALLLLY like an outdoors job next summer... so if anyone can think of anything that is kinda maybe engineering related and that lets me basically play outside all day, that would be sweet.  Sticking with the list theme of today, this is what I've come up with...
i.) landscaping: woo hoo working out at work, boo sunburn and rainy days.  but... outside
ii.) girl who holds the stop sign at the construction sites... ha ha ha... short attention span might be an issue.
    iii.) camp counsellor...?

Anyways I gotta go to bed here, so I'll hafta keep thinking on that one.
    :)

Ravioli, CBC Radio 3, and Joel Plaskett Emergency

Wednesday night I went to Susanne's (a lady from my team at work) and we made ravioli!  Now we're not talking like buy the packages and cook them... we made EVERYTHING!  The dough, the fillings, and the sauces.  We had 3 types of fillings: cheese, cheese with sage, and spinach and ricotta.  I made the spinach ricotta filling, then helped with making the dough, which was PRETTY FUN!  We had to use the cranking machine to roll it suuuuuper thin, then put little blobs of filling on it, fold it over, and then use a little pizza-cutter-esque device to seal them up.  We boiled them all up, and there was a LOT of them, and ate them with the TWO kinds of pesto (Sicilian and Genovese, one involves cheese and one doesnt, but I cant remember which way it goes...) and a DEADLY, but incredibly delicious, cream sauce.  Unfortunately, the raviolis stuck together in the pot that was keeping them warm, so we had quadruple decker raviolis... or lasagna, however you wanna look at it.  Of course they were still delicious.  As if we hadn't already eaten enough, we had apple crisp and salami... CHOCOLATE SALAMI for dessert!  The chocolate salami was made by an Italian guy that works with us, and it was soooo good.  As far as I can tell he just melted butter and cocoa, mixed some walnuts/almonds in it and then rolled it into a sausage shape.  Mmmmm it was sooooooo good.  After dinner was the dishes-blitz, and it actually went pretty well this time!  Much faster than the pizza party, OR the Christmas cooking baking party!

Today at work I was pretty busy, woo hoo!  When I got home I decided to bust out the good old CBC Radio 3:

It's a great radio station because you can listen to the radio, or search for artists and make your own playlists and stuff.  There are some great podcasts, and some sweeet playlists already made up.  I decided to look for some Joel Plaskett Emergency (they opened for the Tragically Hip when I went to the concert a few.. years ago) and LO AND BEHOLD there it is!  WOO HOO!  So I had a pretty great evening with my Joel Plaskett and spaetzli (tagliatelle and dumplings had babies, it would be spaetzli...)

I mixed up a whooooole lot of veggies and then some sausage and curry and put it in with the spaetzli... which is quite unconventiol I think but its boring to eat it just straight!  Anyways, put some cottage cheese on top of it and it was phenomenal :)

Tomorrow I am going to Ikea with Ula after work to do some SERIOUS furniture purchasing.  Saturday I MIGHT go skiing... haven't decided yet.  Saturday night there is a concert in Baden, some Norwegian band, that I'd like to go to, but I dont really know anything about it.  Sunday I might go to a hot air balloon festival, but first I hafta decide if I want to ride the train for 3.5 hours to get there!

    Monday and Tuesday

Monday I went for a run on the way home from work and then called Ashley Tyler and exchanged some photos... it was GREAT!  Then I had some scrambled eggs and headed over to the Berg to do German homework with Andy.  Wir mussen unser Hausaufgabe machen!  Anyways, we finished up and then headed over to the Bewohn bar (not sure how to spell that...) but it was the SWEETEST place ever.  It is in a building that they are going to knock down soon... and for good reason, its very decrepit... so I thought I should go so I get to see it at least once.  And now, I will be for sURE going every Monday until they demolish it!  The rooms are all painted different, there was one that Mike describes as "you are standing on the ceiling and looking through the floor at the next room."  CRAZY!  Anyways, here I RANDOMLY found one of the Swiss beers I wanted to try, the one that is only brewed on the full moon!  It was pretty good.  After that I headed home and pretttttyyy much crashed because I was NOT feeling good at ALL!

This morning (Tuesday) I ALMOST stayed home from work because I felt pretty crappy.  But I got up, had some tea and breakfast and a shower and decided to go because we were doing some sweet tests at work.  I'm glad I went, but I am SUPER tired now :(  So thats why I keep posting instead of going to sleep... ugh stupid me.   Anyways, after the testing I had my LAST German lesson!  My teacher is ADORABLE, she gave us all little cards that said "Taryn knows a little German" with a chocolate :D  SO CUTE!  BUT, only 3 people from my class wanted to keep going so we're gonna get shuffled around now and WHO KNOWS what will happen!

Anyways, I think its time to go repeat the crashing into my bed again this evening because I am soooo sleepy!

Did I ever mention how most beds here are SUPER LOW to the ground?  We're talking like if you flopped into them you would for sURE wind yourself.  Mine is probably.... a foot tall, including the mattress and "frame."  My "frame" is basically a wood pallet... but it is remarkably comfortable.  That may be proportional to the tiredness though...

    Malice in Wonderland

Hahaha... ok I read this book on the TRAIN on the way to Frankfurt to come back to Canada for Christmas, and I am JUST posting about it now.  How sad.  I dont even REMEMBER the author!  Anyways, it is a little collection of stories about the Swiss and their funny habits.  I think it would really only mean anything to people who have lived here and know how ridiculously organized these people are.  That being said, I did see a truck get stuck under a bridge last week... how do you explain that, eh, Heidi?  Lol.

Anyways, it is a funny read and if you want to know more about the culture that I am trying to adapt myself to, you should definitely look into it.  The guy has a couple of books out too, and I'd like to rread them, but I have a HUGE list of books to finish after I finish "Out of Africa," which I have been reading since freaking NOVEMBER.  I want to finish it this weeekend... then read "Shake Hands with the Devil" and "From Beirut to Jerusalem."  But since those are both pretttttyyy heavy I'll read some fun books at the same time :)

I just googled the book and the author is Eugene Epstien, FYI.

    Laax

This weekend I headed out on a ski trip to Laax.  It was organized by one of the few Swiss people I know, Stefan.  He did a FANTASTIC job and it was SO WELL organized it was insane!  You know you are Swiss WHEN... you bust out a calculator *that was in your fanny pack, which are VERY in style here* on the train and start doing calculations of how much people owe you.  So we arrived at the hostel and I got to bed pretty quick to be nice and well rested for the first ski day.  Saturday was a GORGEOUS day!  The sun was shining, the view were spectacular, and of course the snow was bad.  Well, not so bad.  The first few runs we did were quite icy, but thats because they were quite low down.  Laax is a huge resort, and we had to ski quite a bit to get to where we wanted to be.  The snow at the top of the mountain, on the glacier, was actually quite nice.  But that being said, I do prefer groomed runs to off piste stuff, because I am just not that gutsy!  Especially on glaciers.  Anyways, I skiied with Andy for most of the day and we are about the same level so that was pretty cool.  I had one of the most SPECTACULAR bails I have had in a long time... I actually lost a ski!  IT was pretty intense, I am STILL not sure what exactly happened!  I was going forwards... then backwards... then I was doing the splits, then I was on the ground.  BUT I managed to thank the lady who returned my ski to me in German, so I wasnt so shook up after all.  Thank goodness I had bought a helmet though!

We decided, after a lovely lunch, that we should explore another area and made it over to the MOST GORGEOUS view at a ski hill that I have EVER seen.  Unfortunately, we only had one run there before lifts started closing and we had to head down to the Rock Bar to meet some other people... BUT, they were already gone.  So we hung out at this AWESOME bar!  I mean, its at the top of a gondola, and there's seats and sun chairs just everywhere!  We chilled out, watch the sunset, and had the STRONGEST coffee drink I have EVER had.  Let me elaborate.  I watched her make it: 1 scoop instant coffee, 1 sugar cube, at LEAST 2 shots of Schnapps, and fill the rest of the cup with water.  No, it was not tasty, it was gross.  More gross than the Lauberhorn coffee.  Anyways, we watched the sunset, then hit the ski out.  Bad idea.  I was tired... and not paying attention, and had the most spectacular bail  I have ever had.  I was skiing... then I was on ice... off balance... my pole was jammed into my acromioclavicular joint (where your collarbone meets your breastbone... ha ha i can SEE you feeling that joint as you read this!) and then ALL MY WEIGHT was on my pole... and then my pole was bent at a 45 degree angle and I was BAM on the ground.  It was pretty funny.  Luckily, the snow on the ski out was pretty bad and there wasnt many people there, so no one saw me bail.  I was QUITE scared after that though, even though it didnt hurt, but I was pretty apprehensious for the rest of the run.  I managed to reform my pole into the right shape, but it looks like a racing pole.

We skiied out, and at the bottom of the run there was the "Crap Bar."  Now, crap clearly means something REALLY GOOD in Romansch (the 4th official language of Switzerland, which like 0.6% of the population speaks.. that stat is probably way off by the way) ebcause there was just CRAP everywhere!  "Crap information,"  "Crap lift,"  "Crap bar...."  IT WAS CRAZY!  CRAP-tacular you might say!  Anwyays, we all had "Schumli Pflumlis" at the bar, which was, agian, coffee spiked with Plum Schnapps, and it was quite tasty. Probably because real coffee was used.  It was, however, QUITE strong!  AFter our Schumli Pflumlis, we headed back to the hostel to shower etc and get ready for dinner.

We had a brief round of quarters (you try and bounce quarters into a glass, and if you lose you drink something), discovered that beer and vodka mixed together isnt half bad, and then headed out for dinner at this cool little pizzeria.  I had a DELICIOUS pizza, some delicious beer, and a glass of delectable red wine.  Ha, thought I was gonna say delicious didn't you.  Anyways, it was a lovely meal.  Once we had left the restaurant we decided it was time for a group hug and somehow I ended up falling down, someones camera fell out of their pocket, and now I have a black eye.  I mean... I got in a HUGE fight at the bar and the other girl ended up at the emergency room... *ahem*.  Anyways, its pretty ridiculous.  At work I feel QUITE silly.  After the group hug incident, we headed to this cool bar, that was actually in an old barn, although none of us really recognized this at the time.  We hung out there for a long time, we left around 2am, and it was pretty fun!  YES, I went out to a bar.  The Swiss like some weeeiiiiiiirrrrrd music.  There was some Sweet Home Alabama, Scissor Sisters... it was pretty eclectic but really fun!  We had a couple "local" beers (Calanda) which are actually brewed by Heineken.  Hahahah.  You win again this time Holland!  Another good one!  Anyways, late night, but I slept like a log and had this SUPER weird dream where everyone was just latin dancing like crazy.  Very strange.

Sunday was not great weather at all.  It was super windy and foggy.  So foggy sometimes that we couldnt even see where we were going, and the fact that there was lots of exposed grass/rocks didn't help either.  So, I didn't do a whole lot of skiing on Sunday.  We called it quits around 3:30 and hung out at the Rock Bar again for a bit, then headed back to the hostel.  Once we'd gathered all our stuff we took the bus back to Chur and hung out until the 7pm train so we could ride it for free.  In Chur there was a Coop (grocery store) that was OPEN!  ON A SUNDAY!  This is virtually unheard of in Switzerland, let alone for it to be open until MIDNIGHT!  So, now I know where to go if I'm hungry on a Sunday night.  Anyways, we had our usual ghetto dinner in the train station, bread and cheese, with an assortment of olives and pesto.  I had peanut butter... mmmmm.  (I brought a kilo back from Canada :D )  Anyways, we finally got home and I pretttyyyy much collapsed into bed, I was so pooped!  Overall it was a FANTASTIC weekend though!  I hope to get to go back to Laax when there is actually snow, because there is just SO MUCH TERRAIN there!  OH, TODAY IT SNOWED IN BADEN!!!!  I think it still might be!  The snow ploughs were out about an hour after it started snowing... only in Switzerland!

Next ski trip... I might go this weekend but I'm not sure yet!  Going to Zermatt in February, St. Anton in March... and hopefully a few other one day trips.  I dont think my body really handles 2 day trips well... although I think it was the apres ski that really threw me for a loop this time!

ALSO, I have been in contact with my Mom's sisters husbands sister (someone distantly an aunt or a second aunt or an aunt once removed or something) and I will be going to visit them in Innsbruck sometime!  I am QUITE excited because she, and I believe her husband, are both opera singers.  I think opera would be a lot more enjoyable if I knew someone that was performing!

Here is the link to the piste map of Laax if you're interested:

    Distentis

Sunday morning I got up at 5:15am to go skiing.  If that isnt dedication, I don't know what i!  Got on the train for 3.5 hours with Tom, a guy from the UK, and arrived in Disentis, got to the bottom of the hill, rode up the gondola, put my skis on, and JUST GAVE 'ER!  Actually, I didn't go tooo hard because the snow was not very good.  I knew that it wasn't gonna be too good, but I went anyways!  It was not too bad in the morning, and there was BEAUTIFUL view all around me.  I got a few good runs in, and explored most of the hill.  I did, however, miss the part that was off by itself.  I dunnow if you can see in the pictures, but there was a chair lift where the cables spanned this huge... CHASM!  I will label it.  I was very nervous about taking that chair, so I'm kinda glad I ended up missing it.  We had lunch in the beautiful sunshine on the patio, I had a wicked awesome sandwich, home made of course :)  However, an orange did explode in my back pack, and now my neckwarmer is VERY orangy so that wasnt too cool.  I REALLY need to wash my backpack now!!!  It still has some residual sand from my Barcelona trip, and definitely some leaked out balsamic vinegar... eww!

The reason I missed the scary chair was because after lunch a HUGE CLOUD descended on the hill and visibility was awful.  We watched the could coming in and thought maybe it was gonna snow, but no such luck.  Just fog.  BUT no rain so that was a plus.  The afternoon didn't last so long... I made it till maybe 3:30 when everything turned to slush and I couldnt see and I just packed it in.  We gondolad back down to the town, and finally made it home to Baden at around 9pm.  I crashed, I was super tired.  My legs were actually a little sore on Monday too, which is good, because I wasn't sore after our last ski trip because the hill was too flat!

After work on Monday I went and bought a helmet, it is gold :)  but not shiny, matte!  It fits with my goggles perfectly, but doesn't match my coat... NEW COAT!  I think I'll buy a goooood winter coat and some new snow pants for next winter in Canada.  Hopefully there will be snow there, because there sure is none here and I'm missing a GREAT season there!

Tuesday night I had German.  My class is almost over, and only 3 people want to go on so they might not run the class, or it will be much more expensive.  So I dont know what I'm going to do!  I need to find a place to take good lessons that go fast and are cheap... mission impossible!

Tonight I went to the test plant for work, then came home and made soup, which took WAY TOO LONG!  Now I'm talking to Kaley HURRAY and then going to bed.  WOO HOO!

    Lauberhornrennen

After a long flight back to Zurich and a pretty tough first week back at work in the New Year, me and Andy headed up to Wengen (where I was with my Dad when he visted) to watch the Lauberhornrennen.  This is the LONGEST race on the Mens world cup downhill skiing circuit.  Wikipedia has a fair bit of information on the race and its history, and I've included the link below.  The highlight, for me, of the course, was the Canadian Corner:Canadian Corner is named after the many Canadian ski racers who have aggressivly attacked this part of the course and subsequently fallen during the race.  GO BIG OR GO HOME, eh!

Here is a map of the course, with Canadian Corner marked :)

I was going to stand up there and watch the race, but on the way there we ran into some friends on the train who were planning to stand at the bottom (Svetlana and Vladtka) so we decided to go with them.  It was, I think, a good decision, even though it cut out the potential for a little bit of winter hiking.  We had a great view of the finish line!  The racers were going so fast that I didnt think we'd see anything up the hill, but Ula was up there and she said it was great.  Oh well, I loved our spot :)

We got there and headed up to the race course and took our spot at the bottom of the run.  We ended up standing in the shade by the big TV.  We had to be close because Vladtka is STALKING Bode Miller!  She took a BZILLION pictures of him, seriously!  Anyways, it was quite exhilirating to watch the race and the speeds these crazy guys clocked!  There was a few bails, BIG bails, but I dont think anyone was seriously injured.  One guy wrapped himself up in the snowfencing pretty good though!  The Swiss fans were CRAZY with their cowbells and cheering whenever any Swiss racer was on the course.  It was fun to join in, and to be amoung the very few people cheering for any other nationality.  We screamed pretty good for the Canadians, but alas (that word is for you Andy!) I had no cowbell so I didnt complete one of my mission objectives for the day.  Couldnt find a good one though!  All so touristy.  My plan is still to take one from a farm.

Anyways, we stayed RIGHT to the end and cheered for all the skiers after most of the other fans had left.  I had a "Lauberhorncafe," but the cheap kind with schnapps instead of Baileys.  It was GROSS, i shoulda splurged and got the Baileys one!  Anyways, we needed something to keep warm because we were standing in the shade, and I was wearing ski socks, long underwear, and like 6 layers and i was STILL COLD!  After the races we went and watched the medal presentations at the bottom of the hill, then headed down to Wengen town to buy some Rugenbraeu (my FAV beer) and watched more presentations to the winners as well as the draw for the next days slalom.  It was pretty cool to hang out with crazy Swiss people, and my friends that I went with!  After the ceremony we headed back down to the train, and came home to Baden.  It wasnt too crowded at all, but I got home much later than anticipated, and got up at 5;15am on Sunday to go SKIING myself!  I was worried that I would have some crazy ideas from watching this race, but I didnt get going to fast at all!  See my next post for more details on skiing!

    Here are the results, FYI:

OH and I almost forgot!  The Friday before the race I made some WICKED awesome chili!  We're talking AMAZING!  I put beer in in and it was delicious :)  It was a GREAT dinner for the way home!

    Christmas in Calgary

I had a great vacation in Calgary.  After watching "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" *the cartoon version of course* in the Frankfurt airport, after a LONG flight, and after clearing customs with my almost 8 kg of chocolate and $20 of cheese, it was SO GOOD to see my family, Jon, and all the friends I managed to see.  Thanks to everyone who made the extra effort to make time to hang out with me!  Highlights of my trip included Christmas day crepe making with Jon (and assistant chef Danny Yip) at BA's house, Christmas dinner at BA's, raclette-and-crab-legs-to-go-a-la-BA and Flames game at Jons, skiing at Norquay with Jon/Hilary/Nathan, the 2 Flames games I went to, New Years Eve at Nates, New Years day at Charlenes, shopping and making dinner with Jon, hanging out with my parents and sister... and the list goes on and on and on!  Sorry this is short but dinner is gonna start boiling over soon and I gotta go take care of it!
